About Me: Coffeebreak Island is one of the more well-known bands emerging from the Manila ska scene, having been formed in Quezon City in 2001. The band’s sound is a mix of ska, reggae, soul, punk, and rock & roll flavors. This powerhouse quartet delivers their music and keeps it real with a pulsing rhythm section and soulful voices. A unique repertoire of Ska classics and Reggae hits is what sets the band apart from numerous ska and reggae acts in the country. Inspired by The Specials, Selecter, English Beat, Hepcat, Toots & The Maytals, Bob Marley, The Police, Sublime and more, Coffeebreak Island has created a niche of its own and remains to push boundaries and defy expectations with their music, proof of which are the original compositions made by the evolution of sound experimentations. Since then, Coffeebreak Island has performed at local bars and haunts: Altered Native, Tribal Hut, Balsa, Bloo Gum, Big Sky Mind, Millenia, Freedom Bar, Conspiracy Café, Tomato Kick, Crateri, Kolumn Bar, Moomba, Kaffe Carabana, Inihaw Republic, Magnet, Que Rico, Motorsports Alley, Chakik’s, San Mig Pub, Bela Bar, Stir Crazy, Café Lupe, Caliente, Club Indios, Music Factory, Suburbia, Essex Bar, Unplugged, Heckle & Jeckle, Handlebar, 6Underground, Capones, Peligro, Absinthe, Coco Cabana, Café Saguijo, Tavern on The Square, SM Mall sale festivals, WOW Philippines (PTA & DOT sponsored) events, etc. From 2002 til present, some, annually, the band has supported events like the 23rd MFPI Congress Climb at Nueva Vizcaya; Puerto Galera Summer Festival; Summer Place Summer Music Events by Globe, Nescafe and 103.5 KLite-Boracay; Extreme Island Adventure and Dragonboat Festival-Boracay; Rockin Rastas-UPLB; Southside Jahmmin-Stoked Skatepark, ATC; Kadayawan Festival-Davao; Arts & Music festival-Megamall; Fete dela Musique-Eastwood & SM MOA; La Union Surfing Break-San Fernando, La Union; Artfest-Angono; Reggae Fest By the Bay with Ziggy Marley-Sofitel Phil plaza; and also for numerous fiestas, private parties and fundraising events in Sta Mesa; Pasig; Retiro; Ateneo; UP Village; UP Diliman; Metrowalk; Gweilo’s Libis; Seaside Market; Alaminos Pangasinan; Pier16 Bar & Resto-Iloilo; Punta Fuego, and Philip Morris Plant-Batangas; Grande Island Resort and Boardwalk-Subic; Encenada Resort and Coco Aroma-White Beach, Puerto Galera; Crystal Beach-Zambales, and Club Edge-Olongapo. Coffeebreak Island has taken their music overseas with a brief two-month stint in Xiamen, China in 2005, playing to a wide range of audience form expatriates to local Chinese guests. Coffeebreak Island currently plays regularly at 70’s Bistro in Anonas, QC; Xaymaca in Timog, QC; Stir Crazy in Ortigas; and Dapo in Tomas Morato, QC. Coffeebreak Island’s much awaited first album has just been released June 2007.
