About Me: Lem's Guitar is a solid 3 piece band that wants to play music in its simplest form with Justin Magalzo on drums, Paul Basco on Bass, and Lemuel David on Vocals and Guitar. Only using basic effects such as overdrive and a pinch of delay. No more, no less. You might wonder where the band's name came from. It all started in 2001. Back then, they were called the "Diff'rent Lives Band". It was a pure Christian band, all songs should be written about God, and played for God. Praise Him by the strings as they say. All gigs were done in churches. No bars, clubs, and the likes. Before the present line-up, a lot of talented musicians contributed in creating Lem's Guitar's music. It started out as a 3-piece band, then became a 4-piece, and even became a 6-piece as more musicians came and hitched the ride. But sadly, not all stories wind up to happy endings. The band eventually fell apart, leaving Lemuel as the remaining hope in spreading its melodic art. Which is also the main reason why he decided to name the band after himself since he's always the one left. He got the idea when one of his officemates called him by his email address and said, "Hey! lemsguitar!". Indeed, lemsguitar was his email address. So he decided to make it the band's name so that even if everyone leaves him again, there would be no problem on thinking of another tag. Equipped with pure determination, he searched and scouted a lot of folks who would truly fit in the band. Of course, talent isn't the only parameter. He needed allies who truly are devoted and as determined as he is. When it seemed that all hope is gone, a guy named John Paul came along the way. Before, he was in a show band and always get paid on gigs. It's quite odd why he would shift to a band who has nothing but "pay to play" gigs to offer. But he didn't let pride interfere, and was ready to throw the usual paying gigs away for his passion. He saw Lemuel's ad in an internet site looking for a bassist. Lemuel, on the other hand, didn't hesitate to give him a chance. After John Paul contacted Lemuel, they immediately played in a studio the next day, armed with their different influences. And just a few riffs later, John Paul was in the band. Lemuel didn't have a hard time on making his decision, as it seemed like each of their groove was made perfectly fit for each other. Now all they need is a drummer and the band will be up and running again. While they still haven't found the right one, they had session drummers to help the duo spread their music. They played a few gigs with it, but it still didn't felt right. Then a text message came to Lemuel. Another guy was interested to be part of the band. Apparently, this guy was searching for drum solo videos in an internet site, and accidentally stumbled upon the ad. "Hey, are you guys still looking for a drummer? -Justin", the text message read. He was having second thoughts if he would pursue auditioning for the band since he used to be in the underground emo and metal scene back in 2005. Only armed with rock beats and metal fill-ins, he was quite unsure if he would make it. "Metal to Funky Alternative is a whole different world" he said to himself. And so is the underground and mainstream scene. His former bands didn't come to a happy ending either. However, while he was still in a rock band, he felt like his chops aren't really meant for that type of music, and wanted to explore more. It took Justin a great amount of courage to make his decision in auditioning for the band. With more than 6 months of no practice and gigs, he felt different and uncomfortable just by sitting behind the drum kit. Of course, the audition was no good, but Lemuel decided to let him play in a gig as a sessionist just because of the effort he did. The gig came and while they're playing, it seemed like a different Justin is with them. It surprised them that the lousy drummer boy from the audition and rehearsal, is now laying some serious chops in the gig. Backed-up by pure determination as well, Justin was the missing piece. On May 2008, the band was up and running again and everything seems to fall into place. Lem's Guitar's music is inspired by different musical genres like Blues, Acid Jazz, Funk, Progressive Rock, Alternative & Rock. It's pretty ironic how the band was formed in 2001, as a 3-piece band playing for charity and church events, who's road was awfully bumpy. And now it's back as a 3-piece band again, playing in bars and mini-concerts, continuously mastering their craft. They're no longer a Christian band, but they don't mind being labeled as one. So far, the biggest gigs they got was being the front act band for the band Salamin, the jazz artist Jerome Rico, and a tv guesting for UNTV's morning show "Good Morning Kuya" (hosted by Daniel Razon). You can catch Lem's Guitar every saturday at One Luv Reggae Bar Sucat, Parañaque. It is the band's desire to make a difference, to be known and given a chance to bring hope to people through our music. Lem's Guitar will be playing Alternative Pop Rock and Blues music to reach out and spread the love of the ALMIGHTY to every soul. Feel free to browse our MUSIC, PHOTOS, and our other sites.
