About Me: While everyone else stays afloat in the mainstream milieu of Pinoy music, the blues-rock gospel is spreading through a fierce, fresh and fearless band of charmers with fangs (and balls) to boot. Snakecharmer is a 6-piece band that spawned from jam sessions among high school classmates circa 1990. Now putting a dent on Pinoy blues history with a gutsy rock and roll tang are Jason Quibilan (vocals), Ruben Flores (guitars), Zann Pacificador (guitars), Brian Mendoza (bass), Ronneil Guba (keyboards) and Mon-Mon Lopez (drums). The enviable on-stage chemistry among long-time friends prevails, and it shows in each of their loud, gung-ho and electric performances. The blues-rock character in the unique Snakecharmer sound is inalienable thanks to a host of powerful musical influences. One will clearly hear a lot of the Allman Brothers' blues fixation, the Rolling Stones' danceable swagger, The Beatles's pop inflection, The Black Crowes' crunchy guitar work, all of course without losing the original attitude from blues fathers like Elmore James, John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters to name a few. There are also the occasional doses of Bob Dylan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steve Miller and Tom Petty added to the menu without veering off from the blues-rock dimension the band is religiously devoted to. Snakecharmer's original work, however, is what this band is all about. The band's catalogue is a body of work that has crystallized the fundamentals of their iconic influences. Their mission in crafting their own sound is to make music that is very natural, with the instruments remaining distinguishable and sounding noticeably unfiltered. Snakecharmer's 6-instrument structure also leaves plenty of room for layered arrangements, which they are able to deliver in live performances. Moreover, the deep-rooted blues and rock flavor is intensified by lyrics which are committed to the truth while consistently offering fresh angles on the otherwise familiar. Snakecharmer is out to wind a path that casts a spell over audiences and is ready and bent on blasting its own brand of guilt-free music. The wait for an honest Pinoy blues-rock serving is over.
