The following entry is listed as Wilabaliw's blog.Who the hell is WILABALIW?
Feb. 12, 2010 12:40 PM WilaBaliW envisions itself not merely by being just a band but more of a movement, a brand to promote a better quality and take on the vast field of music. The project was conceptualized by Ian Tayao 8 years back when he was still active with his previous band (Queso). The perfect chance to manifest the idea did not become so vivid until he was able to cosmically find members or better yet the members finding him. Tayao has dedicated his life to the constant progressiveness of music. Soul and Groove is his armada and with the addition of his strong vocal execution, well let’s just say that it’s outstanding. Francis Magat has proven to be one of the Senior Musicians in the local current scene today with his intimate depth of musical knowledge as well as the musical execution. With acts like Sound, Salindiwa, Sampaguita, and And Sinosikat under his belt, coining him as an experienced musician would prove itself to be an understatement. Robert Dela Cruz is a highly respected Drummer and is considered if not one of the best; the best drummer there is in the country. With the talent of being able to move with “light speed” through percussive intonations paired up with the ability to make the drums translate itself articulately would imbibe that Robert is more than just your ordinary drummer. Extra Ordinary. Louis Isok is the new breed of guitar. Considered as a Promil abuser when he was a child, Louis does not make his young age as an excuse for him not being able to par up to his colleagues, but uses it as an advantage for being able to come up with new and exciting vantage points to produce songs and musical intensity. Fusing all of these factors together would prove to be rather daunting at first for the reason that the individual talents of the group are stand alone, but what proves to be even more amazing is how the group manages to rise as one solid army when they are given the proper opportunity to share to the world of music that there is something bigger than the personalities involved and there is a greater purpose to serve.
What WBW is about? :
One of the main concerns of WBW is to uphold the vivid advocacy of promoting the progressiveness of the Filipino music scene and broadening it to global heights. WBW believes that the talent that the Philippines, in terms of musical artistry, hones can be considered to be a top contender in the global music scene and believes that it should be brought up to that level or even better. WBW will initiate the necessary courses of action to manifest this vision by providing shows that will not be maintained solely as aural display of musical expertise but also provide the required elements for the audience to render the show as a “roller coaster” experience. With proficiency in the field of Lights and Sound design, these elements will be integrated to provide a better impression for the audience on what and how musical artists should be evident in the global atmosphere of the said field.
2010 would mark the start of this movement. WBW believes that it will serve a greater purpose for the betterment of Filipino Music and is up to the task of being the catalyst for this radical change. With these new standards realized, WBW will take intricate measures for the world to realize that as a Filipino nation, we can show them what we are made of.
WBW events and production:
Bold, Proud, and Loud...
One motto that WBW realizes is the practice of working hard and working smarter. The Events that the group will hold will be revolving on two aspects namely the shows being “refreshingly original” and “ground breaking”. On this light, it will enable the group to separate itself from traditional approaches on producing shows and establish WBW’s impression to be regarded as Global Musical Participants. With a diverse line of material, the audience will receive a fresh and broader sense on their outlook on Filipino music as it is to be said that this is one of the primary objectives of the entity. Instead of just being a showcase, WBW will make sure that it will create a bridge to make the audience be able to really participate on the experience first hand.
Event Concepts:
Execution of events will prove to be very important as it will parent the kind of impact that the group will strive to imbibe to its potential followers. WBW aims to hold its events in “out of the ordinary” locations so that it would create a vibe of interest and buzz amongst its peers. Events don’t necessarily have to be limited to the show of the band itself but instead also create an atmosphere where in the audience could participate and partake in through the promotional activities that the sponsors and established partners will provide.
Production Design:
WBW gives the upmost importance regarding the preparation and the aesthetics on both Sound design and Visual production. The group, with the help of Financiers, will make use of top notch equipment and will be manned by respective professionals to give the definite texture that will separate the group’s show from the traditional styling of local productions. The mission is to make the listener embark on a journey on rediscovering the definition of Filipino Music.
