About Me: The first time we saw Jimmy Bondoc was when Tin Arnaldo launched her debut album at Ratsky’s Malate two years ago. He was guest performer for the occasion, and by all indications his "star" was still precariously hidden in a thick blanket of a showbiz-designed career path going slightly counter with the real personality of his music. Jimmy, like all other artists past or future, fell victim to the selling-out trap, maybe because he was new in the biz and he had no other choice but follow its dictates by any other means. The urge was just too strong to ignore. He was happiest when his music was heard all over Metro Manila and the provinces, but he was looking for a certain "freedom" that seemed elusive at that time. Like a good soldier, Jimmy promote his debut album according to schedule until his contract expired. He didn’t renew. The question Jimmy had to face that moment was "Where to now?" Post-Showbiz With his record label stint finally over, reaching out anew to the audience became his first battle plan. How? First, he had to detach himself from the showbiz mold that he had been thrust into early in his career; and second begin facing music instinctively. Jimmy, as a consummate musician, decided to form his own band to satisfy his thirst for his music making. Among his band mates was Nina, to whom he had a major role in charting out a recording career. As he was having the time of his life with his band, time had a way of revealing things. Members of his band went on separate ways to pursue different careers. Again, Jimmy had to look for a new outlet for his art. Let Me Be The One With a new song positively being hailed as the catalyst to push him up to superstardom, Jimmy slowly reintroduced himself to the fans by performing in whatever gig he can book himself in. Soon, the song Let Me Be The One was playing over chosen radio stations to the surprise of many music people. Surprising, yes, because the song had no album release to contain t in the first pace. We found out that Jimmy had been marketing himself-creating his own demos and press releases. Also, Cynthia Alexander’s N.A. Records played a big role in the recording of his sampler single, an impressive number vividly describing the heartache of letting go: the questions, the hoping, the hesitation. How can Jimmy describe a relationship that though headed for doom is still steeped in extraordinary consideration and compassion? Jimmy pauses for a while and decides to let it drip. He says that the song was made just last year, an inspiration was a former girlfriend who found it hard telling him that she had already fallen out of love. So he broke the silence, and let go-freely, an without any hard feelings. The relationship ended during that time when he was still promoting his album, when he most needed an emotional boost. Let Me Be The One’s impressive ploy gave people the reason to be attached to the song, but it was the lyrics that touched a chord in everyone’s hearts. It was so close to home.
