MTV STAYING ALIVE MUSIC SUMMIT FOR HIV/ AIDS 2008 ON DECEMBER 3

RICO BLACO, OFFICIAL SPOKESPERSON

7 November, 2008 Manila – Get ready for the country’s biggest concert for a cause: the MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS 2008 on December 3 at SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds! Rico Blanco makes a stand and helps out the cause as the official spokesperson of the event.

MTV is the ultimate destination for all things relevant to youth. Besides music, fashion, school, entertainment, and sports, MTV also aggressively focuses on pro-social causes that we feel are important to our audience, such as stemming the use of drugs, and HIV/AIDS education.

In line with this, MTV Networks International launched the Staying Alive campaign in 1998. It is a global multimedia award-winning awareness and prevention campaign that seeks to help prevent HIV/AIDS by empowering the youth to protect themselves, fight stigma and discrimination, and engage businesses, media and organizations to form their own response to HIV/AIDS.

Since 2003, MTV Philippines has hosted the annual MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS. Through the universal language of music, the Summit aims to create a greater awareness about HIV/AIDS. The event is the country’s biggest concert for a cause. Featuring the biggest names in music and entertainment, the MTV Music Summit has become the most anticipated concert in the country. Every year the concert draws crowds of 50,000 – 80,000 people from all over the country and abroad. This event has attracted the likes of Mandy Moore, Joshua Payne, the Barbs, Jay Sean, Duncan Sheik and Mig Ayesa to the Philippines. This year’s concert is set to take place on December 3, Wednesday.

Campaign and Event Fact Sheet

What is the Staying Alive campaign and how is MTV connected to it?

The Staying Alive campaign, which was launched in 1998, is a partnership between MTV Networks International, Family Health International’s YouthNet, Kaiser Family Foundation, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the Joint United Nations Programme for HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). This multimedia global campaign includes long-form programming, such as documentaries, concert events, discussion programmes and made for TV movies, public service announcements, sexual behaviour polls, a dedicated, multi-lingual web site (www.staying-alive.org), and off-air marketing and grassroots promotions.
