October 2005 Cathexis was formed in University of the Philippines Diliman. Their music is variously described as gothic rock, as well as ethreal rock (like cocteau twins) in some media, although cathexis claim that their music simply fell into a melodic rock genre. Directly after the release of their first song "Talisuyo 2 (Hintay)" in manila film festival as an official music soundtrack of the movie Shake Rattle and Roll 9, the band's music became very well appreciated specially in the underground scene.
